We are now working in collaboration with the NTS, National Theatre of Scotland, Martyn Robertson, Urbancorft and playwright, Martin Travers to create a short film. We have left 4 bothy boxes in 4 locations: Culra Bothy, Coire Fionnaraich, Camban and White Laggan. Please contribute to the boxes if you are in these bothies anytime before October 2011 when we will be picking them up. Thank you.
Other personal trips we have taken: 2010/11
I have been out alone in Gorton and Camban since the last trip. These trips alone are something quite different, not as much fun, but very rewarding.
May/June 2011: Ben Alder and Coire Fionnaraich have been some of the best bothy trips I have ever been on. We stayed at both bothies on a Friday night and there wasn't anyone there. The weather on the Ben Alder trip was snow and high winds, freezing, May 31st! The weather up at Torridon was scorching and beautiful, June 30th, just a month later. I love this country.
March 2011 Loch Chaiarain was a lot of fun. We did not respond to this trip with as many photos or music, more poems and a good laugh! For those who got stuck with us on the train on the way back, thank you for making it a hilarious trip rather than an annoying one.
We took a short trip to Tarf Bothy this winter 2011. Pretty isolating and cold. We have taken some stunning pictures and I have written a new song called 'Under Brodges' (to be recorded July 2011) in response to the heavy walk along the river in the dark.
April 2010 The Spring bothy trip was amazing. Actually it still looked like winter in Spring! We dropped off bothy books in two of the bothies on route....the Tea house and Shenavall bothy...if you are going out to these bothies in the future, please reflect on your stay in these bothy books through poetry, sketches of music etc...thank you.
Ideas about how to present/communicate any of these trips through performance are welcome! (Especially from those who have seen the first performance)
The first performance was recorded by artist, Alex Fiennes, and selected tracks are now launched on the 'music' page along with selected photos on the 'photos' page.
Site specific concerts at bothies will be another strand to our next project, so keep checking for updates.
Also an education project will also be launched next year. Young people will have the opportunity to help the Mountain Bothies Association maintain a bothy. They will then be able to work with me, writing music in response to their trip.
We encourage people to write to me on this email address: matildabrownmusic@gmail.com about their trips in the mountains. Thank you!
